NLS Summer Reading Events vis Zoom

The National Library Service is pleased to announce the events scheduled for its second Summer Reading Program, which will run from Monday, June 24, through Friday, August 9, 2024. All events will take place on Zoom. 

Kickoff event (all ages): Monday, June 24 at 4:00 p.m. eastern time. 
Story time and music: Turtle Dance Music (K–3rd grade): Thursday, July 18, at 4:00 p.m. eastern time.

Many Faces of BARD

The topic for the Thursday, June 13, 2024, Many Faces of BARD program will be NLS eReader Updates: A Brief Review. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. eastern time and last for one hour. NLS will record this program. A brief presentation will begin the session. Presenters will spend the remainder of the time answering questions about the presentation or using BARD.

NLS Quarterly Patron Corner

 On Monday, June 10, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. eastern time, the NLS Patron Engagement Section will host the quarterly Patron Corner. The topic for this program is NLS Summer Reading: Another Bridge for Literacy for Children Who Are Blind or Low Vision. The 90-minute session will feature a national panel of experts on literacy in the blind and low-vision community. Panelists will discuss the state of literacy among low-vision children and adults and describe approaches for improving literacy outcomes.

During the months of March and April each year, the South Carolina State Library Talking Book Services Department offers a fine arts creative outlet for blind and visually impaired students in our state. This year young artists submitted tactile pieces using ceramic, felt, cotton, paper, wood, metal, and more. It was difficult to choose the winners but here they are!
